Mohammad Tariq Mahmmod, a British Muslim from northeast London has spoken out on how he was barred from travelling to the US with his brother and nine children. He says they were on their way to Disneyland but were prevented from boarding a plane to LA by US officials who refused to explain their actions despite being granted online authorization.

Mahmood who says his family weren't returned the cost of tickets totalling £9000 also said: 'It’s because of the attacks on America – they think every Muslim poses a threat. I have never been more embarrassed in my life. I work here, I have a business here. But we were alienated.'

Stella Creasey, MP in Mahmood's constituency says she got no reply after contacting the US embassy on the issue, she also raised the issue with Prime Minister, David Cameron and he has promised to look into it.

Ajmal Masroor, who is also from north London, told the BBC: 'America is the country of the free and the brave, that's what we're told, but it looks like it has stooped down to paranoia and narrow-mindedness and that's unfortunate.'

Buhari orders immediate payment of December salaries

China detains grassroots labor activists as disputes rise

Police in the southern province of Guangdong have detained seven labor activists, including three leading members of China's nascent grassroots labor movement, on charges they improperly intervened in labor disputes, the official Xinhua News Agency said Tuesday.

The report came nearly three weeks after Zeng Feiyang, Meng Han, Peng Jiayong and other activists were taken away. Xinhua confirmed the detention of seven of them, who reportedly have been denied access to lawyers.
Their detentions and the accusatory article in the state news agency are part of a crackdown on labor activism, which has been growing as labor disputes increase amid an economic slowdown.
The Hong Kong-based China Labor Bulletin reported 2,606 labor disputes this year, up from last year's 1,379. In November, the organization recorded 301 labor incidents, the highest monthly total this year.
The labor groups are independent of the official All-China Federation of Trade Unions, which has been accused of failing to protect workers' rights.
Grassroots labor activists have gained popularity with migrant workers and have offered them many services, including legal aid.
In recent years, labor activists have helped workers elect their own representatives for group negotiations with management and organize collective actions, such as protests and work stoppages.
Chinese authorities are wary of the grassroots activism and have said hostile foreign forces are using illegal rights groups and activists to compete for the hearts of workers, sabotage the unity of the working class and undermine the state-sanctioned union.
Xinhua said Zeng and his group were funded by overseas organizations and incited workers to stage strikes that disrupted public order and hurt workers' interests.
The ruling Communist Party says it is a party of the working class, but does not tolerate any social force that may threaten its monopoly over Chinese society.
Since President Xi Jinping came into power in early 2013, the government has tried to tame social media, prosecute activists championing civil society, crack down on rights lawyers, and rope in non-governmental organizations.

NUEE calls for review of the privatization of the power sector

The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, yesterday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently review the privatization of the electricity sector in order to ensure stable power supply in the country.
The union chastised the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, for wanting to increase electric bill despite having unstable power supply.

President Goodluck Jonathan, had in 2013, privatised and handed over the assets of the defunct Power Holding Companies of Nigeria, PHCN, to new investors now known as Distribution Companies, DISCOs and Generation Companies, GENCOs.

At its 5th Quadrennial and 10th National Delegates Conference, taking place in Lafia, President of the union, Mr. Mansur Musa, said that since the privatization, the new investors in the power sector haven't added any improvement to the sector, but rather had been milking the citizenry dry.
He said:
“While the country still groans in darkness, lack of meters, dearth in power infrastructure and high tariff, the investors smile to the banks at the expense of the workers who have little or nothing to show for their hard work.
“Apart from the investment government made in the sector prior to privatization, investors do not consider it expedient to invest on the growth and development of Electric Power in the country. We strongly advocate for a review of the privatization exercise.”
