It’s Risky To Talk About Nigeria Now - Jonathan
Gbaramatu people urge Okowa to end military invasion
Former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday at Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State, said it is unsafe to talk about events and situation of things in Nigeria.
The reluctance of the former president to speak on national issues raises concern about his standing with the incumbent administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, which has accused many of his ministers, aides and party men of barefaced corruption during his six years of governance.
Against Buhari’s sustained onslaught, the expectation is for Jonathan to offer some explanation to dispel the heavy charge of corruption against him and his government. But the ex-President in pleading his constraints, said so much by saying nothing.
Gbaramatu, the hometown of ex-militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, has been under military siege. Tompolo, whose late father was the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, has been accused of short-changing the Federal Government in a contract he signed with the Jonathan administration. The military had invaded the community for at least three times in the last one year.
Jonathan who was special guest of honour at the presentation of staff of office to the 26th Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II Aketekpe, Agadagba, said the country is passing through serious challenges and that making comments now about it is not the best thing to do.
He said Gbaramatu has been so associated with violence and militancy that most people would not believe that such a ceremony would be held peacefully in the kingdom. Jonathan said Nigeria is a country of resilient people and that the challenges facing the country would soon be over.
The former President lauded the Pere of Gbaramatu and urged the monarch to use his traditional stool to enthrone peace in the kingdom.
The presentation of staff of office is a follow up to the monarch’s selection, confirmation and installation as Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom after following due process as specified under section 8 of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979 regulating succession to the throne.
Speaking during the event, the Ibe-Benemowei of Gbaramatu, Chief Godspower Gbenekama in strong terms begged the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, to use his office to stop the daily harassment and invasion of Gbaramatu people by the military.

After thinking she was was dating an engineer from Southampton who had a

"I was very vulnerable, I had been on my own for a long time and I just wanted to meet someone
'Elizabeth' met 'Harold' a Norwegian man who had a contract in
Dubai, which meant it was difficult to meet up - this turned out to be a
lie. After being asked about how he won over her trust, she

initially handing over £3,000, in total she gave the scammers more than
£20,000. 'Elizabeth' claims they sent up to 20-30 messages and emails a
day and said "they were basically brainwashing me.
Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan pressed the victim more, as it was
revealed that 'Elizabeth' was targeted by more than one person in the
elaborate hoax.
"I believe they were a gang of Nigerian scammers," said Elizabeth.
When Susanna quizzed her on what the police said, Elizabeth said:
"I
didn't really get much from the police, they didn't give me a lot of
information. They said there was nothing they could do
for me."
Good Morning Britain also revealed the latest figures of 'romance fraud' with victims losing £23.3million in 2015.

Man who had penis accident at childhood, loses virginity at 44 years with sex worker
Mo, as he is fondly called, tested his bionic penis for the first time with sex worker Charlotte Rose and said it was a great experience as he had lifted the burden of not having sex off his back.
It took surgeons at University college, London three years to moUld Mohammed’s new penis using skin taken from his arm. It has two tubes which inflate to give him an erection when he presses a button on his testicle. He said
“It was great. I’ve been waiting for this day since I was 18. But now a big burden is off my back and I’m so happy.”
But Mo had to wait to lose his virginity because it has only recently become fully functioning.
Charlotte, 35, got in touch with Mo after hearing about his plight and he asked her to be a part of his first sexual experience. A setback saw Mo’s bionic penis malfunction, with one side of the pump failing to inflate properly on the big night.
Mo explained: “I wanted someone who was willing to accept me the way I was. "I’m a learner. I’ve got L plates. I didn’t want to go in all guns blazing and make an idiot of myself. It was frustrating, but I’d already waited 20 years, so one more day didn’t hurt.”
On the following evening, everything went smoothly. Mo says: “When Charlotte saw it for the first time, she was silent and I was a bit worried. But then she said: ‘It’s incredible’. It’s nice to hear a lady say that. After it was over, I lay there with a big smile on my face.”
Mo says his ultimate goal is to become a father. “Doctors have been testing my sperm count and testosterone levels and everything is possible,” Mo explained. "A friend is helping me with dating because it’s all new to me. My confidence has been so low, but thanks to Charlotte I have a new spring in my step.”
Charlotte usually charges £160 an hour for her services but didn't collect any fee from Mo. “It was a real honour to be asked because your first time is a memory in your life you never forget,” she said.
“I wanted to make sure there was no pressure for Mo. There was a lot of fun, smiles and giggles. The room got quite heated. "In the end, he lasted for an hour and three quarters. I was impressed.” Source: MirrorUK

Oil Price Rises Above $40 Per Barrel, OPEC mend Fences
Oil prices rose above $40 per barrel yesterday, continuing to gather
support after the world’s biggest suppliers firmed up plans to meet to
discuss an output freeze. Oil producers, including Gulf Organisation of
the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members, support talks holding
next month on a deal to keep production at current levels. That is even
if Iran declines to participate, OPEC sources said on Wednesday.
A meeting would increase the likelihood of the first global supply deal in 15 years. U.S. crude was up 65 cents at $39.11 a barrel, having earlier risen as high as $39.38. Brent crude rose 38 cents to $40.71. “A smaller than expected gain in inventories in the U.S. also supported prices,” ANZ said in a morning note. Crude inventories increased 1.3 million barrels in the week to March 11 to 523.2 million, a much smaller build than the 3.4 million-barrel increase expected by analysts.
The market is also rallying after a less hawkish U.S. monetary outlook, as the U.S. Federal Reserve held interest rates steady and indicated two rate hikes this year instead of the four expected. Qatari oil minister, Mohammed Bin Saleh Al- Sada, said producers from within and outside OPEC will meet in Doha on April 17 to discuss plans for a freeze in output.
The initiative was supported by around 15 OPEC and non-OPEC producers, accounting for about 73 per cent of global oil production, the minister said. Since the freeze was first proposed last month, prices have recovered about 50 per cent from decade-low level. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has advised oil-producing countries to use the fall in oil price to check cost profile in doing business. Kachikwu gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 6th African Petroleum Congress and Exhibition, yesterday, in Abuja.
“The industry will still be in challenge in one to two years and I hope that the lesson you take away will help you either as government policymakers or practitioners in the industry, to confront some of the issues. “Amidst all these global chaos, reducing prices, lack of investments, loss of jobs, contracting of most of the servicing companies, postponement of major projects, there are some good safer linings.
“It is a good opportunity for countries to begin to look inwards, check their cost profile,” he said. According to him, during the era of $120 per barrel era, many countries and companies assumed that it would not end and the cost profile was up the bounds.
Kachikwu, who is also the Chairman of African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA), said that stakeholders were framing up the planned meeting of OPEC and non-OPEC countries. He said the meeting would hold on April 17, adding that it would help bring positive change in the industry.
“Hopefully, it will help to bring up the price higher than what it is today. Again, in the last two months, because of the work some of us have done, the prices are beginning to be firm. “We cannot know the predictions now, but there are signs of hope,” he said.
Kachikwu said that presently, countries were looking at the best ways to reposition their companies and countries. He advised African countries to emulate what countries in the Far East and the Gulf were doing right, especially in the area of governance and savings.
The minister added that a lot of intelligence was required, especially now that there was paucity of funds to unbundle challenges in the sector. Kachikwu noted that the coming together of African countries would help open up space for more investors in the sector in the region.

Man Arrested For Abducting, Impregnating House Help
A 45-year-old driver has been arrested by the police for allegedly abducting a 23-year-old woman in Dutse, Abuja.
The suspect, a father of five, identified only as Charles, was said to have impregnated the woman before taking her away to Lagos.
City News reliably gathered that the woman, identified as Josephine, was employed by the suspect as a house help to his wife and that she had spent only weeks with the family when signs of the pregnancy showed.
The source said as soon as the suspect noticed the pregnancy, he arranged with his sister staying in Lagos to take her to her house. This was done without the consent of the woman’s parents. It was also in order to hide the act from his wife.
According to the source, the suspect had to deceive the pregnant house-help into believing that he had to relocate her to Lagos, alleging that his wife was getting worried that he would marry her (Josephine).
The source further said the suspect relocated to another town in Bwari, a move that made it difficult for the victim’s relations to know her whereabouts.
City News learnt however that luck ran out on the suspect when he was seen by one of the relation’s of the victim at a garden where he went to relax.
“The woman quickly raised alarm which attracted other passersby who apprehended and rough handled him before he was eventually arrested by the police,” the source added.
Confirming the incident, the Dutsen Alhaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Aisha Yusuf, said the house help had since been recovered from the suspect and reunited with her family, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

If you think a canine wedding is bizarre then consider that it was no
puppy affair with over 5000 guests in attendance complete with all the
trappings of a traditional Hindu wedding. The unusual ceremony was held
in the village of Parawa, in the northern-Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The groom, Shagun, and his bitch, Shaguniya, were dressed in children's
clothes and said their vows on a purpose-built podium to raucous cheers
from the crowd.
Jung, the father of the bitch, said: 'I raised her like my own daughter. Today, I am giving her hand in marriage to Shagun. I wish the couple a happy married life together.'
Excited guests danced to music played by an orchestra and traditional Indian cuisine was served to hungry revellers.
Jung gave Shaguniya a tearful send off as his beloved pet departed in the car with the groom.
Guests said the unusual ceremony was a 'historic one', which demonstrated Indian society's love for their dogs.

Buhari Gets Accolades At Uk House Of Lords, As Troops Nab Sect Leader
Boko Haram: PMB Gets Accolades At Uk House Of Lords, As Troops Nab Sect Leader
Abdulkareem Haruna, Agbo-Paul Augustine
— Mar 18, 2016 3:14 am
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in London got resounding accolades at the United Kingdom’s House of Lords for sustaining the war against Boko Haram and degrading their ability to attack and abduct children.
Presenting a speech at the House of Lords under the headship of Lord David Ramsbotham, President of Jose Foundation, Prince Martins Abhulimhen, who on the invitation of the Lords to brief the parliament on the role of non governmental organisation in helping the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and children in Nigeria, told the parliamentarian that the ability of the federal government to equip the Nigerian military with the right equipment has help in turning the heat on the insurgents.
Abhulimhen, while expressing gratitude to the British Parliament for the rare invitation, said the 10 months old government of President Muhammadu Buhari has been able to repeal the insurgents and create safe camps for internally displaced people, a majority of whom he said are children.
He informed the Lords that the save environment created by the federal government in recent days has provided the opportunity for nongovernmental organisations to move into the various IDP camps to provide the much needed humanitarian services.
He emphasised the need to critically look at the conditions of the people living in the various camps all over the northeast with the aim of rehabilitating them and prepare them for a new life after the crisis.
“We now can show our zeal as it is safe to work in such camps. The internally displaced people is part of what I have come here to sensitise your Lordships about. For the first time in the history of Nigeria, we have a discipline, corrupt free leadership under the impeccable person of President Muhammadu Buhari, which without any doubt will make our tasks a lot easier,” he said.
The Jose Foundation also frowned at the wave of abduction of young girls, forced into marriages and conversion of their religion by some Nigerians in recent times.
Abhulimhen cited the recent case of the abduction of Delta State born teenager Miss Ese Oruru from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State to Kano State by one Yunusa Bala (Yellow) condemning the act and pledge his foundation’s commitment to rehabilitate the teenager.
He noted that the Jose Foundation is partnering with Save the Children Organisation UK, Nepal Child Rescue Foundation, the Wellbeing Foundation and other like-minded nongovernmental organisations to help the Nigerian government ease this burden and end “this crisis and humanitarian catastrophe”.
He reminded the parliamentarians that over 200 children from the Chibok village in Borno State are still missing, “though the government is also making tremendous efforts to bring back the girls. Many children need expert care and counselling to help them return to normal life”.
The Jose Foundation was established in 2003, inspired by the visit of her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh when she challenged the Government and People of Nigeria to address and eradicate the circumstances that led to the pitiful state of the displaced children in Nigeria vis-a-vis Africa.
Over the past decades however, the Jose Foundation has reached out to the less privileged and made progress through contributions and financial assistance in relevant sectors of the Nigerian polity through government institutions such as hospitals, motherless babies homes and institutions that protect the disabled.
However, in recent times, there have been insurgence and ethnic upheavals leading to high levels of violence and kidnappings in the Niger Delta areas and much more recently Islamic fundamentalism by the Boko Haram group in the North East of Nigeria unleashing violence on an unprecedented level using bombs, ambush, guerrilla warfare and military and para military suicide bombers including children especially young females that have been kidnapped and brain washed into suicide bombing.
Meanwhile, the Boko Haram sect has suffered another defeat, as troops yesterday accosted a gang of the insurgents at a border community in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria, arrested one of their leaders who has been on the list of ‘100-wanted terrorists’, army officials said.
A gang of Boko Haram were intercepted at a fishing community known as Daban-Masara in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno while trying to ferry over 200 litres of Petrol to an unknown destination.
The insurgents, led by their shot and later arrested leader, who was labelled Number “95” on the first published list of ‘100 Wanted Terrorists’ attempted to resist the Troops of 7 Multinational Joint Task Force Brigade’s Quick Response Group (QRG) stationed in Baga and 118 Task Force Battalion, but were effectively overwhelmed.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, who confirmed the development in a statement said the troops “sprang an ambush along Daban Masara axis usually used by Boko Haram terrorists’ elements to convey logistics on Thursday.
“At the encounter, one of the suspected wanted Boko Haram terrorists leaders who is serial number 95 on the first Nigerian Army wanted list of 100 Boko Haram terrorists leaders, was fatally wounded in the exchange of fire.
“He later gave up while receiving medical attention at the base, while other members of his team escaped with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered 7 Jerri cans of 30 litres containing 210 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), motorcycles and food stuff in addition to arms and ammunitions”.
It was gathered that the dead leader of the Boko Haram had been a major motivational sub-leader of the insurgents in that axis of Borno.

EFCC Seeks Interpol’s Help To Arrest Adoke, Others
Eniola Akinkuotu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched an international manhunt for all persons suspected of complicity in the $2.1bn arms scam, the N676m immigration job scandal and other high profile cases.
Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that the EFCC had sent the names of the suspected individuals to the International Police Organisation.
A reliable source at the commission told our correspondent that INTERPOL had been asked to keep some of the suspected individuals under watch while some others would be arrested immediately if sighted.
The source said, “We are seeking INTERPOL’s assistance to establish the exact locations of these persons and to help us to monitor their movements. If these persons are travelling from one country or the other, we would be alerted at the airport.
“Once we can get them, we will approach a court and get an extradition order.”
The source explains that there are two methods of getting a person that has fled abroad. One is to report to INTERPOL and then INTERPOL gets them wherever they are. The second method is to officially seek their extradition through diplomatic means.
“When you go to court, the court will issue a bench warrant or an order for extradition and it is the court paper you will send to the government of the jurisdiction where the persons are. That is Mutual Legal Treaty Assistance,” the source added.
Some persons indicted by the EFCC, including ministers who served under the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, have since fled the country and have refused to honour EFCC invitations.
For instance, the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Bello Adoke (SAN), has refused to honour an EFCC invitation over the $2bn Malabu scam since December and even said in an open letter to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo that he would not honour the invitation because there was a plot by his political opponents to embarrass him.
An anti-graft agency in The Hague, Netherlands, was confirmed on Tuesday to have searched Adoke’s residence, following collaboration with the EFCC.
Also, one of those charged in the immigration job scandal, Mahmood Ahmadu, in connivance with Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd, allegedly lavished N423m of the N676m extorted from the applicants on several properties.
The EFCC had also accused a former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, of an alleged N2bn fraud.

ICPC Freezes SURE-P Directors’ Accounts, Seizes Vehicles Over N3bn Fraud
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission has begun a probe into the activities of directors and senior officials of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme.
It was learnt that the ICPC had frozen the accounts of some of the officials while some vehicles had been seized from them.
SURE-P was set up by the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2012 after nationwide protests followed the hike in the prices of petroleum products.
The programme was scrapped by President Muhammadu Buhari in November last year.
The SURE-P was mandated to convert saved fuel subsidy money to jobs, roads and other people-oriented programmes but became political during the build-up to the 2015 elections.
A source in the ICPC told our correspondent on Wednesday that the probe started after the commission received information that huge funds were embezzled by the officials.
The source added, “We have frozen the bank accounts of some of the officials while we have started seizing some vehicles from them. Our plan is to seize about 200. Presently, we have seized about 30.”
Our correspondent, who visited the ICPC on Wednesday, counted about 34 vehicles parked on the premises of the commission.
Some of the vehicles included Sport Utility Vehicles, Hilux vans, salon cars and ambulances.
Our correspondent learnt that the probe was in connection with a N3bn fraud allegedly involving the Federal Ministry of Finance and the SURE-P Graduate Internship Scheme.
The money, it was learnt, was meant for the payment of the participants.
It was gathered that the money was meant to pay the allowances of 17,500 participants for eight months, which never got to them.
The SURE-P GIS is a component of the SURE-P domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The immediate past Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Anastasia Nwobiala, is already in court over the Nigeria Immigration recruitment scam, which led to the death of about 20 graduate applicants.
Also, about N4.9bn was said to have been extorted from 51,000 applicants, recruited as Federal Task Force officers for the protection of the SURE-P/Federal Road Maintenance Agency projects during the build-up to the last elections.
The aggrieved employees, in a petition, said they were forced to purchase the FTF forms, which were supposed to be free at the rate N30,000 each despite their impoverished situation, only to be employed, used and abandoned.
The petition reads in part, “We wish to cry out and seek for your urgent help over the fraudulent extortion from us and dehumanisation of our lives under the SURE-P/FERMA employment programme, named Federal Task Force by the above-listed names and other officers (Directors) on the following pretences and tricks.
“We were recruited and employed for the past three years without any training allowances; no salary and other allowances were paid to us.
“We were mandated to pay for the Presidency SURE-P/FERMA Task Force forms.
“We bought the forms with inscription ‘NOT FOR SALE’ boldly written on it at an average amount of N30,000 each.”
Some of the task force commanders have since fled the country.
A former Chairman of SURE-P, Christopher Kolade, had said last year that he resigned his position in 2013 because its operations were becoming tainted with corruption and politics, thereby losing its credibility.
He said some officials of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan were practising “something that was lower than the transparency” expected of an interventionist agency like SURE-P.
He had stated, “When I discovered that there were individuals in the system that were practising something that was lower than the transparency that we went in with, I raised the issues; and I discovered that political affiliations and things made this difficult.”
The former SURE-P boss cited an instance when the agency decided to employ 5,000 youths from every state of the federation.
According to him, when it commenced, he informed the Presidency that the arrangement it adopted was not acceptable but he was overruled.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, said she could not comment on the matter.
