5 important thing's most people miss off their CV

Employers and recruiters alike are time poor and from speaking with my colleagues and clients there seems to be a number of common things that job seekers leave off their CV that can make life difficult for employers. Below are 5 common things that job seekers typically miss from their CV that employers want to see on there!

1. Home address in full – This saves employers and recruiters a lot of time! Employer’s need to know where you live for several reasons, - location is imperative for employers, especially if the role is to be office based. Just simply putting the county you live in is not enough, dependent on where in the county you live could be the difference of up to an hour’s commute. So having your postcode or area code and full address on there is a must for hiring managers and recruiter’s. Also when you get offered your new role, your home address will be needed to send out a hard copy of the contract.

2. Industry specific qualifications - Are you sales trained…? Think SPIN, TAS, Miller Heiman etc, these qualifications are just as attractive to some employers as a degree! Do you speak any languages, this will make you stand out from the crowd and is also looked on favourably from employer’s and recruiters alike.  Industry specific qualification’s…what industry specific accreditation’s do you have? Make sure these are clear on your CV it could be the difference of you getting called up for an interview or not!

3. Skype ID - Skype is fast taking over the initial conventional telephone interview, I’ve personally seen an increase of over 60% in these over the last 18 months with my clients. If you don’t already have a Skype then set one up, keep the username professional and put this on your CV ASAP, this is just as important if not more than your mobile number for recruiters and hiring managers alike.

4. Linkedin profile – Put a link to your Linkedin profile on your CV, the first thing a recruiter or a hiring manger will do is referrer to your linked in profile after receiving a CV, get them onside early by saving them time trawling linked in looking for you and add the link to your CV. Make sure that your Linkedin profile mirrors your CV perfectly (with regards to time spent at each company, any career breaks etc.) and ensure that you have a great photo on there that shows you in a good light!
